Privacy Policy
What this site collects, what it does not, and who else sees it.
Not yet reviewed by counsel. This document was written for what this site actually does, and it is accurate as a description. It is not legal advice and it has not been checked by a South Carolina attorney. We would rather say that than let it look more authoritative than it is.
What we collect
If you send a planning or partner enquiry we keep what you typed into the form: your name, your email, a phone number if you gave one, your dates, and your notes. We keep it because we cannot answer you otherwise.
The site sets one cookie, a session cookie, which exists so a form submission can be matched to the page that sent it and so the accessibility controls remember your choices. It carries no advertising identifier and it is not shared.
Your accessibility preferences (text size, contrast, reduced motion, theme) are stored in your own browser using localStorage. They never reach our server.
What we do not collect
We do not run advertising trackers, we do not build profiles, we do not sell or rent enquiry details, and we do not add you to a mailing list because you filled in a booking form.
Third parties that see something
Google. Business names, addresses, phone numbers, opening hours and ratings in the directory come from the Google Places API. Those requests are made by our server, not your browser, so Google does not see you browsing the directory. Where a page embeds a Google map, your browser does contact Google and their terms apply to that request.
NOAA. Tide and water temperature readings come from the NOAA CO-OPS API, requested by our server and cached. No visitor data is sent.
Fora Travel. If you book lodging or an activity through us, the details needed to make that booking are shared with Fora Travel and with the property or operator. That is the booking; it cannot happen otherwise.
Google Fonts. Typefaces load from Google's font servers, which means your browser makes a request to them carrying your IP address.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept while the trip is live and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back. Ask us to delete yours and we will.
Your rights
Ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask for it corrected, or ask for it deleted. Write to [email protected] and we will act on it.
